ALAGOAS, BRAZIL

ADRIANA CAPELA

The jackfruit, a symbol of the Northeast coast part of Brazil, was brought to the country in the XVII century from India and adapted well to the Brazilian tropics. Inspired by the beauty and complexity of the fruit, Adriana started her career as a ceramist making beautiful realistic jackfruit to celebrate the tree that is a hallmark in her region.

There are many steps to making jackfruit sculptures. Adriana’s process takes up to a week to be completed. The final product is a very realistic sculpture that celebrates the beauty and complexity of nature and how it influences people’s lives. Adriana got national recognition when she created her unique jackfruit, an artifact that brings the exuberance and warmth of the tropics to any decor style.

Adriana and her sister Sil have become two of the most relevant ceramists in Brazil and her inspiring life story became a book called Do Barro eu vim, do barro eu sou (I came from clay, I am from clay).
